The casting of a Carolingian bell is one of the most exiting experiments we have so far undertaken, this is in fact the third and hopefully final attempt.

Archaeometallurgist Dr.Bastian Asmus will be on our site for the preparation already some days in advance. He will build a kiln from clay in which the crucibles with bronze will be placed. Also, he needs to fire the mold so that the beeswax and all moisture from the clay is removed. Please bring some patience if you decide to attend the event. The casting will take place some time in the afternoon – when the bronze is liquid and ready to be cast.

In case of rain the experiment has to be delayed as the combination of liquid metal and water is very dangerous!
